Nozawa Onsen Topography and Climate
Nozawa Onsen is nestled in the Nagano Prefecture of Japan, surrounded by the scenic peaks of the Japanese Alps. The area features a mix of rolling hills and steep slopes, making it a popular destination for skiing and snowboarding. Key points include:
- Elevation: The village itself sits at approximately 550 meters (1,800 ft), with the ski area reaching up to about 1,650 meters (5,400 feet). The 1,000-meter vertical drop from the base to the peak of the mountain can lead to significant differences in conditions.
- Terrain: The ski resort offers diverse terrain, including groomed runs, powder bowls, and tree skiing areas, catering to various skill levels.
- Natural Hot Springs: The region is famous for its onsen (hot springs), with numerous baths available for relaxation after a day on the slopes.

- Season: The ski season generally runs from late December to early May (golden week), with peak conditions often found in January and February.
