Nozawa Onsen is nestled in the Nagano Prefecture of Japan, surrounded by the scenic peaks of the Japanese Alps. The area features a mix of rolling hills and steep slopes, making it a popular destination for skiing and snowboarding. Key points include:

• Elevation: The village itself sits at approximately 550 meters (1,800 ft), with the ski area reaching up to about 1,650 meters (5,400 feet). The 1,000-meter vertical drop from the base to the peak of the mountain can lead to significant differences in conditions.
• Terrain: The ski resort offers diverse terrain, including groomed runs, powder bowls, and tree skiing areas, catering to various skill levels.
• Natural Hot Springs: The region is famous for its onsen (hot springs), with numerous baths available for relaxation after a day on the slopes.

Climate

Nozawa Onsen experiences a humid continental climate, characterised by cold winters and hot, humid summers. Key climate features include:

• Winter Weather: Winters are typically cold and snowy, with average temperatures ranging from -5°C to -15°C (23°F to 5°F). The area receives abundant snowfall, often exceeding 10 meters (33 feet) annually, creating excellent skiing conditions.
• Snow Quality: The region is known for its light, powdery snow, making it a favourite among skiers and snowboarders.
• Season: The ski season generally runs from late December to early May (golden week), with peak conditions often found in January and February.
• Summer Climate: Summers can be very hot and steamy, with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C.
